Malenovský likely to remain Czech EU court judge in next term

Jiri Malenovsky will probably continue representing the Czech Republic as a judge at the European Court of Justice in the next term, since the lower house's European affairs committee gave smooth consent to his nomination on Thursday.

Czech, Austrian police train action against football hooligans

More than 200 Czech and Austrian police officers took part in an exercise in which they intervened against football hooligans and pursued a vehicle over the border in South Bohemia and Upper Austria on September 19-20, the Czech Police Presidium announced on Thursday.

ČSSD seeks out-of-court settlement of debt to Altner

The Czech government Social Democrats (CSSD) have offered 180 million crowns in an out-of-court settlement to the heirs of the late lawyer Zdenek Altner in a dispute over a huge sum he claimed for his services to the party, Czech Radio reported on Thursday, citing three reliable sources.

Social Watch criticises Czech arms exports to Egypt

The Czech Republic exported arms and military equipment to unstable regions and authoritarian countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia in 2016, Tomas Tozicka, head of the Czech branch of the Social Watch organisation, told journalists on Thursday. "One of the key problems is that arms are very easily available for the warring parties," he said, adding that there are nearly two dozen conflicts in which more and more people are getting killed.
