Almost no suspected extremism in Czech security forces in 2016

Czech inspection checked three cases of suspected extremism among the police, customs or prison officers last year, which is two cases fewer than in 2015, and none of them has resulted in levelling accusations for the time being, an annual report on extremism shows.

No reason to raise terror alert, PM says after Manchester

There is no link between the Manchester blast attack and the situation in Czech Republic, due to which the degree of terror alert should not be increased, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka told journalists after meeting Interior Minister Milan Chovanec (both Social Democrats, ČSSD) yesterday.

Czechs divided over Bělobrádek's trip to Sudeten German congress

This is a provocation and humiliation of World War Two victims, Communist leader Vojtěch Filip said about Czech Deputy Prime Minister Pavel Bělobrádek (Christian Democrats, KDU-ČSL) attending the 68th Sudeten German rally in June, while other party leaders are unopposed to it.

Poll: Social Democrats losing popularity

The government crisis, that ended with the naming of the new finance minister, Ivan Pilný (ANO), caused the popularity of Social Democrats (ČSSD) to lose 4%, falling to the current 14 percent as against April, according to a poll conducted by the Median agency and released yesterday.

MPs want pay in social services to rise more than planned

The Czech Chamber of Deputies asked the cabinet today to raise the monthly pay in social services by an average 3,000 crowns at least as from July, which is considerably more than the 5-percent increase planned by the centre-left cabinet.

Právo: Czech schoolboy shouting Allahu akbar with airsoft gun

A Czech schoolboy, 15, broke into his classroom, shouting Allahu akbar, he aimed an airsoft gun at a horrified teacher and then turned the barrel up to the ceiling and pushed the trigger at a secondary school in west Bohemia last autumn, daily Právo reported yesterday.
