ČR passes chairmanship of Council of Europe to Denmark

Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek officially ended the Czech Republic's six-month chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CE) and passed it on to Denmark on Wednesday, the ministry has said in a press release.

Survey: Most Czechs dissatisfied with election result

A majority of Czechs are dissatisfied with the October general election result, while 43 percent are satisfied with it, according to the STEM agency's poll results released to CTK on Thursday.

ANO supports KSČM leader for Chamber deputy head

The ANO movement will support the nomination of Communist (KSCM) leader Vojtech Filip for the post of deputy chairman of the lower house of Czech parliament and the KSCM will support ANO MP Radek Vondracek nominated for the house's chairman, Filip told journalists on Thursday.

Folk singer Wabi Daněk, tramping song icon, dies

Czech folk singer Wabi Danek, whose songs became popular in the country in the 1970s and 1980s, died after a long illness at the age of 70 on Thursday, his family told CTK without elaborating.

Eighteen parties break rules of election campaign

The Czech office supervising the financing of political parties imposed fines worth 600,000 crowns in total on 18 groupings running in the October general election for violating the rules for the election campaign financing, the office's head Vojtech Weis said on its website.

Bust of Czech painter Kupka unveiled near Paris

A bust of Czech abstract painter Frantisek Kupka was unveiled in the French town of Puteaux this evening to mark the 60th anniversary of his death, Sarka Skrabalova, mayor of the Czech town of Opocno that has had a similar bust since June, told CTK.
