MfD: Horáček is richest presidential candidate

Pop lyricist and former businessman Michal Horáček is the richest Czech presidential candidate with CZK 232 million, far before President Miloš Zeman and scientist Jiří Drahoš, out of the trio standing a real chance of succeeding in the contest, daily Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) reported yesterday.

Gov't raises money for science to CZK 36.2 bn in 2018

Science and research will get CZK 36.2 billion in 2018, which is CZK 3.5 billion more than this year, the government decided yesterday approving Deputy PM for Science and Research Pavel Bělobradek's (Christian Democrats, KDU-ČSL) proposal, cabinet spokesman Martin Ayrer has tweeted.

Gov't releases CZK 404m for teachers' pay rise

The Czech government released yesterday CZK 404 million from the budget reserve for the teachers' pay rise as of September, Education Minister Kateřina Valachová (Social Democrats, ČSSD) has told reporters.

MP Fuková voting against 1968 occupation dies

Božena Fuková, one of the four deputies to the Czechoslovak National Assembly (federal parliament) to vote against the agreement on the Soviet troops' temporary stay in Czechoslovakia in October 1968, died on May 18 at the age of 82 years, the Charter 77 Foundation told ČTK yesterday.

Eight Czech man may be taken into custody over police data leak

The State Attorney's office has proposed that the eighth man be taken into custody in the case of leak of information from Czech police databases, state attorney Petr Šereda told journalists yesterday, adding that in all, 18 people have been accused in connection with it.
