Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek has said he backs the EU and free movement of people, but that economic inequality between states that weakens trust in the EU must be dealt with, in reaction to how Monday's issue of Hospodarske noviny (HN) presented an interview with him.

Zeman not to attend Cardinal Vlk's funeral, will send wreath

Czech President Milos Zeman will not attend the funeral of former Prague Archbishop Miloslav Vlk and he will send a wreath instead, his spokesman Jiri Ovcacek has said, adding that Zeman is no hypocrite and the sending of a wreath is a sufficient expression of respect.

Kiev condemns Czech MP's presence at Crimea invasion celebration

Jaroslav Holik, Czech MP from the minor opposition Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party, who reportedly attended a celebration of the 3rd anniversary of the Russian occupation of Crimea, was banned from entering Ukraine for five years on Monday.

Number of EU directives not transposed to Czech order doubles

The number of EU directives that the Czech Republic has failed to transpose to its legal order roughly doubled to about 20 in 2016, according to a government report which the Senate will discuss and which CTK has at its disposal.

Poll: Migration, terrorism are biggest EU problems

Most Czechs are of the view that migration and terrorism are the main problems of the EU, having the most negative attitude to migrants from all EU countries, according to a poll conducted by the Eurobarometer last November and released on Monday.

Czechs, Germans to use drones to find trees hit by bark-beetle

CzechRep joins global initiative in support of financial literacy

The Czech Republic will join the Global Money Week international event for the first time this year to boost young people's financial literacy, the event's spokeswoman Dana Spicarova told CTK on Friday, adding that lectures and workshops will be held in schools and other institutions.

Drinking water in former Czech army grounds contains uranium
