More spaces for legal graffiti

Graffiti has long been a problem in Prague, with several incidents of people vandalizing Charles Bridge and the National Theatre, among other landmarks. At the same time, many people consider large, colorful pieces to be street art, and the sprayers consider themselves artists. Some parts of Prague are providing areas where sprayers can paint on walls, while cleaning up other places such as residential buildings and walls in public spaces.

Signal festival coming in October

The fifth edition of Signal, the festival of light art, will take place in Prague from Oct. 12 to 15 with 22 installations. This year will be organized a bit differently than previous editions. There will be two official festival routes. One in Vinohrady will be shorter and perhaps a bit calmer, while the downtown route will go through the heart of Prague.

Residents want fewer events at Náplavka

Prague 2 residents living near Náplavka are unhappy with the large amount of noisy events on the waterfront during the summer. City Hall says that next year Náplavka will be quieter and have better security against terrorist attacks.

Some Prague flights affected by Ryanair cancellations

Low-cost carrier Ryanair has canceled some flights to Prague. The airline says it "messed up" in scheduling vacation time for pilots and as a result it has to cancel 40 to 50 flights a day over the next six weeks until Oct. 31. This is less than 2 percent of their flights, though.

MINT: Pop Up Hall 13 offers a new way to shop

Hall No. 13 in Pražská tržnice at Bubenské nábřeží in Holešovice will open up on Friday, Sept. 29, to launch MINT: Pop Up Hall 13. The organizers have a new concept, and the minimalist space of Hall 13 will turn into a sought-after shopping address with regular vendors, where fans of high-quality fashion, design, art and good food will go every Friday and Saturday.

Taxi drivers threaten blockade

Prague taxi drivers are asking Mayor Adriana Krnáčová (ANO) to resolve their dispute with Uber drivers by Sept. 22, or else the taxi drivers will blockade streets. The demand came at the end of a protest at Václav Havel Airport Prague on Monday that saw some 100 drivers participating.
