Festival of French Film coming to Prague

The 20th Festival of French Film runs Nov. 22 to 29 at Lucerna, Světozor, kino 35 (at the French Institute) and Cinestar Anděl. Films from the festival will also play in Brno, České Budějovice, Hradec Králové and Ostrava.

Wimbledon winner Jana Novotná dies

Czech tennis star Jana Novotná has passed away at age 49 due to illness. She was one of the world's top-ranked players in the 1990s and a three-time Olympic medal winner. She retired in 1999.

New smog restrictions could apply in February

The Legislative Committee Prague City Hall recently discussed a draft of measure to reduce traffic during a smog situation. In the most serious smog situation, trucks over six tons would not be allowed to drive in the city. Cars would be divided based on odd and even licenses and allowed to drive in the city on matching calendar days. The change could apply from February next year. Similar measures are used in other European cities such as Paris.

Repairs finished on Nusle Bridge

The Nusle Bridge (Nuselský most) is fully accessible again after six years of renovation work. Only minor adjustments still need to be made. These should be done by Dec. 15 and will not affect traffic on the bridge.

Trams and buses to get more security cameras

More security cameras will be installed on buses and trams in response to recent incidents of crime. Some 200 cameras should be supplied to buses in December, and a tender for 250 CCTV cameras for trams is planned for next year.

Josef Lada illustrations at the Dancing House

The most extensive exhibition of works by Czech illustrator Josef Lada has opened at the Dancing House and will run to April 1, 2018. Lada illustrated books such as The Good Soldier Švejk and numerous works for children.
