Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka stood for re-election of the Social Democrats at the party's congress at the weekend and received 67% support from delegates, a somewhat lukewarm result given that he ran unopposed.

Sobotka defends Social Democrat head's post with 67%

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka was re-elected chairman of the Social Democratic Party at the party's congress winning 67% of the vote on Friday, according to the official election results. Sobotka was supported by 460 congress delegates, while 201 voted against him in a secret ballot and 26 ballot papers were invalid. Sobotka has been heading the ČSSD since 2011.

Zeman wishes ANO-ČSSD cabinet to continue after election

President Milos Zeman would like the current ANO-Social Democrat (CSSD) coalition to continue to rule the country after the autumn general election, he told the Blesk.cz server on Sunday, but added that this will depend on the election result, not on the president.

Milos Zeman would like the Czech president to have the possibility of legislative initiative, he told Blesk.cz on Sunday, but Prime Minister and Social Democrat (CSSD) head Bohuslav Sobotka said he does not think that the presidential powers should be extended in this sense.
