FAZ: Populist Babiš may rule Czech Republic

There is the fear that if Andrej Babis' ANO wins the forthcoming Czech general election, a populist may rule the country, the German paper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) wrote on Monday.

New application faciltates voter card requests for Czechs

A new web application of the "state watchdog" (Hlidac statu) initiative enables its users to apply for a voter card in a simple way, submitting just basic personal data and an ID number, Michal Blaha, the initiative's founder, told CTK on Monday.

Mainstream parties are against more powers for president

Czech president is unlikely to have the power to submit bills to parliament, which President Milos Zeman recently proposed since politicians of three mainstream parties rejected the idea in a debate that the public Czech Television (CT) broadcast on Sunday, two weeks before the general election.

A local politician of the ruling Czech Social Democrats (CSSD), Brno-Bohunice deputy mayor Milan Hrdlicka, dismissed the opinion that he is an extremist and said his statement that migrants were like snails whom nothing can stop was a hyperbole.

Czechs tend to trust more Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky (ANO) and leader of the populist Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) Tomio Okamura than ANO leader Andrej Babis, according to a poll conducted by the CVVM institute and released on Thursday.

Aktuálně.cz: Liglass sponsored party close to Zeman

The Czech company Liglass Trading CZ donated 200,000 crowns to the Party of Citizens' Rights (SPO), whose honorary chairman is President Miloš Zeman and whose former leader was Vratislav Mynář, head of Zeman's office, the news site Aktuálně.cz wrote on Wednesday, adding that both men later lobbied for the company to obtain a deal in Kyrgyzstan. The server has found out from SPO's annual report that the party received the money from Liglass last year.

Poll: Czech students want Pirates to rule country

Czech Pirates want to win 10-percent of vote, says leader

The Czech Pirates want not only to enter the Chamber of Deputies for the first time, but also to win at least 10 percent of the vote so that they can push through more of their programme, their leader Ivan Bartos has told CTK in an interview held three weeks before the general election.
