Camping in large beer barrels used to be popular in Czechoslovakia. Some people in 1965 were seen in a newsreel spending some vacation time in Budvar beer barrels that had been converted to little cabins around Hluboká nad Vltavou and České Budějovice in South Bohemia.

Mucha's Slav Epic to open Year of Czech Culture in Japan

The exhibition of the Slav Epic by Czech Art-Nouveau painter Alfons Mucha (1860-1939), which starts in Tokio on Tuesday, March 7, and will last until June 5, is a major part of the Year of Czech Culture in Japan.

Russian anti-torture NGO awarded at Czech film festival

The Russian non-governmental Committee for the Prevention of Torture received the annual prize Homo Homini for human rights activists at the opening of the 19th annual One World festival of human rights documentaries in Prague yesterday.

The annual Pivex Gold Cup competition this year recognized Zubr and Litovel, each winning in two categories. The competition was held in Brno for the 25th time. Zubr was also named best brewery in a special award to mark the competition's silver jubilee.
